AXN Floater (Clouds Fly) with an onboard camera

May 18th, 2010 5 comments

Sunday was a nice sunny day and I had a couple of flights with my AXN Floater Jet (AKA Clouds Fly, glider, etc) over our field (TEMAC). The good old $14 camera is still working wonders! :)

MyRCLog.com – logbook for RC

April 6th, 2010 No comments

I’ve come across a website called MyRCLog.com — it’s a logbook for RC planes, helis and cars.

For each flight you record, it lets you enter what pre-flight changes were done to your model (such as “changed gyro gain to 76%”), what you’ve accomplished on that flight (such as “first time flying inverted!”) and some notes (“blade tracking still off, must measure linkages again”).

It also keeps track of your battery usage, flying fields, flight durations, etc.

I’ve just started using it and here are some screenshots:

Google Earth picture of the TEMAC flying field

January 13th, 2010 2 comments

Here is a nice Google Earth picture of our flying field (TEMAC), taken right during the Fun Fly in 2009. I never noticed we had “TEMAC” written in the grass!

Heh, the last blue dot on the bottom is my car, with my wife watching the planes sleeping in there at that moment. But she did support me and worked as the camerawoman during the Formosa race.

Formosa Pylon Race at TEMAC

October 3rd, 2009 5 comments

It was the second day of the TEMAC FunFly event, where members of other clubs are welcome to fly at our field for the whole weekend, meet new people, exchange knowledge on how to crash better, etc. Quite a windy day (20km/h+), but still very flyable.

So this is what happens when you group a bunch of people with the same airplane and stick pylons to two poles:

(special thanks to my camerawoman)

My Formosa specs are:

ESC: Turnigy Sentry 25A
Motor: Turnigy 2830-1050Kv
Propeller:10×5 APC style
Servos: 4x MKS311 (digital)
Receiver: AR6100
Battery: Flightmax 1300mAh 3S 20C

Except for the receiver, everything came from HobbyKing… why pay 5 times more from a local store for the same thing? I like the description of their new T-Shirt:

Strike fear into the hearts of store owners by wearing this 100% cotton topic of conversation to your local hobby store & watch their attitudes change as you proudly wear your battle dress whilst perusing the shelves of overpriced locally acquired merchandise.
Prepare to be loved or hated at your next R/C convention or meet-up.

Oh yeah, indeed!
